4′ Wide x 3/8″ Thick Colored Commercial Rolled Rubber for Clubs – 3/8″ rolled rubber flooring is the most common protective flooring solution for clubs. It sufficiently protects floors from impact due to weight drop, it is often times the most affordable gym flooring option and rolled rubber uses very large sheets of rubber which results in less visible seams compared to other choices.
Environmentally friendly rolled rubber that is produced from recycled crumb rubber harvested from post-consumer truck and passenger tires is produced by combining crumb rubber with a liquid urethane binding agent which is mixed together in a very large 4′ high cylinder. Once this mixture solidifies into what is referred to in the rubber flooring manufacturing industry as a “log”, the log is removed from the cylinder allowing rubber rolls to be peeled off at the desired thickness with a very large knife. When logs are produced with a 20% color content, such as red, green or blue, colored EPDM granules are mixed into the crumb rubber and urethane batter. The end result is beautifully speckled flooring rolls.
Rolled Rubber Trivia – Question: What are the faint vertical lines that are visible in some rubber rolls? Answer: These faint lines are referred to as “scything” and are produced by the large knife that peels the rolls away from the solid rubber log.
